1 statement n.  陈述, 声明
He made his first public statement about the affair.

6 flight 航班
I'll book you on a direct flight to London.

7 curiously 好奇地
Curiously, he knew all about it.

Jim looked about the room curiously.

9 approach  v 靠近, 接近,
n.  途径, 方法, 接近
He still had no courage to approach her.他仍没有勇气靠近她。
Snow announced the approach of winter.

Silently we approached the enemy's camp.

I'd advise taking a different approach.

10 defence n.  防御, 防务/ v defend

12 misunderstanding 误会，误解
I must weigh my words to avoid any misunderstanding.

13 dash v&n.  猛冲, 猛跑
He came dashing through the door.
He dashed across the street and ran towards me.

13 adult n 成年人
adj.  成年人的, 理智的, 成熟的 ，

14 on the contrary 恰相反

16 express one’s feelings 表达某人情感
No words can express the grandeur

Possible 的主语只能用it。

17 shake hands / shake one’s hand
You may shake hands when saying good bye to people.
Let' s shake hands and be friends.
I can shake hands with you on that problems.

5 function n.作用，功能，职能
v.起作用
The function of the government is to serve the people.

The sofa can also function as a bed. 
这沙发也可以当床。
Some English nouns function as verbs.
6 in most cases 多数情况下
In most cases, he is willing to help others.在大多数情况下他是很乐意帮助别人的。
When we talk with a foreign lady, in most cases, we should not ask such personal question as her age .

7 subjective adj 主观上的，n 主语
How can you fully believe his subjective judgement?

Be careful to avoid being subjective and one-sided. 切忌主观片面。

8 rank 级别,  等级, 阶层

Similarity n.相似， similar adj
There was a wonderful similarity between the twins.
