Unit3 I'm more outgoing than my sister.
The First Period(Section A 1a-1c)
Teaching goals:
Intellectual and Ability
Learn the comparative forms of adjectives and adverbs .
To make the students understand and use proper language to describe people and things, and to compare people and things.
To master the usage of comparative degree.
To describe the different places between two people according to the information provided.
Procedures and Methods
Picture Demonstration : Let students use a variety of adjectives to describe the content of the pictures ,it can cultivate students' ability to observe things and review the adjectives. ·
Listening Practice : Help students understand the target language. Know the usage of comparative degree.
Individual ,Pair or Group work: Make every student work in class. Develop the independent learning ability and innovation ability. Stimulate students' enthusiasm for learning.
Emotional attitude and Values
By describing things to cultivate students' ability to observe and curiosity about things.
Teaching Strategy:
In the teaching process, give full play to the guiding role of teachers, stimulate students' subjective initiative, let the students participate in teaching activities.
Teaching Important Points
·Can describe a person's appearance and personality characteristics;
·Can use’ - (i)er’ and’ more ‘to form the comparison of adjectives and adverbs;
·Can use ‘as... as’ structure to express the same between two people.

Teaching Procedures:
Step I Greeting and lead-in
T:Good afternoon, everyone.
Ss: Good afternoon, teacher.
T: Sit down, please. Today, we are going to learn Unit3(Write the title on the Bb.)
T: Open your book, turn to page 17.Look at the picture, there are three pairs of twins. Do you think they are exactly the same?
Ss: No.
T:Well.Who can tell us what different between Peter and Paul?
S1: Paul is short and thin, Peter is tall and heavy.(Teacher writes ‘tall’ and’ heavy’ on the Bb.)
T: That’s right. Paul is short and thin, Peter is tall and heavy. What about Tom and Sam?
S2: Tom has short hair and Sam has long hair.(T writes ‘short’and ’long ’on the Bb.)
T:Very good, sit down, please. what different between Tara and Tina .
S1:I think Tara’s hair is long and straight. Tina’s hair is curly.
T:I think maybe Tina sings loudly but Tara is quietly. Do you agree with me?
Ss: Yes.(T writes ‘loudly’ on the Bb.)
Purpose: Review the description of the characters. By describing the different places between two people help students get more knowledge about the topic of the new unit and cultivate the interest in learning.
Step Ⅱ Complete 1a and 1b.
T: Ok,now complete 1a.Do it by yourself first, and then exchange your opinions with your deskmate . Do you understand?
Ss: Yes.
(one minute later the teacher checks the answers)
T:Now,let’s do some listening. Please read the requirement in 1b and number the pairs of twins. (T plays the tape for the students to listen for. )
Purpose: Help students review more about character adjectives . Familiar with the use of comparative degree by listening the tape.
Step Ⅲ Listen again and try to summarize some changing rules of comparative forms of adjectives and adverbs in groups.
T:OK,and then I’ll play it again. You have two tasks. First, write down the adjectives and the adverbs you hear in the tape. Second, listen and find out how these dialogues compare two people.
After the listening give Ss 3 minutes to discuss in groups of four. Then ask some Ss to share their answers.
Grammar:
(1)一般在词尾后加 -er:
hard-harder soon-sooner
clever-cleverer cold-colder
(2)以e结尾的词,在词尾加-r:
close-closer fine-finer
wide-wider nice-nicer
(3)以“辅音字母+y”结尾的双音节词,去“y”变“i”加“-er”:
angry-angrier cloudy-cloudier
early-earlier happy-happier
(4)多音节词和部分双音节词前加-more:
comfortable – more comfortable comfortably- more comfortably
(5)重读闭音节词尾只有一个辅音字母时先双写该辅音字母再加“er”

Purpose: Help Ss understand the usage of comparative degree.
Step Ⅳ Practice the conversation in 1c and make conversations in pairs.
T:Now, let’s do some practice . Please practice the conversation in 1c and then use these words make conversations about these three pairs of twins with your deskmate.
Simple conversation:
Purpose: To help the students to practice the target language, learn to talk about the difference between people and things.
Step ⅣGame:
T:(Write’-Is Tom smarter than Sam’、’-No, he isn’t. Sam is smarter than Tom’)Look at the simple conversation, follow this conversation and describe a student in our class in groups of four. After a while, I’ll ask some groups to act your dialogues.
(T goes among the students while the students are practicing the dialogues)

Summary:
Today, we have done some listening and speaking, and made sentences use ‘-(i)er’ and ‘more+ adj /adv’ .This is comparative degree. We can use it to describe someone or something exactly. From what we have learned ,we can understand that everyone has its own characteristics.
Homework:
·Read and translate 2d in P18 and Grammar Focus in P19.
·Compare your parents and tell them what different between them.
