Part B Let’s talk
The analysis of the lesson
1. Master the words “July”, “August”, “September”, “October”, “November” and “December”.
2. Say out the sentence patterns “When is …? It’s in …”
The analysis of pupils
Pupils are quite active so a lot of English games are considered.
Pupils are very interested by using the multi-media.
Teaching period: 40 minutes.
Teaching objectives
Knowledge objectives
(1) Let Ss hear, read and use the words “July”, “August”, “September”, “October”, “November” and “December”.
(2) Enable pupils to say out the sentence patterns.
Ability objectives
(1) Enable the Ss to use the words “July”, “August”, “September”, “October”, “November” and “December”.
(2) Let Ss use the sentence patterns to express their thoughts in the proper scene.
Emotion objectives
(1) Increase the Ss’ interests and set up self-confidence in language study by playing English games.
(2) Cultivate pupils’ ability of cooperation and competition.
Teaching focus & difficulty
Focus
(1) Study and initially master the words “July”, “August”, “September”, “October”, “November” and “December”.
(2) Teach the Ss how to study independently as well as by cooperation.
Difficulty
(1) The correct pronunciation of the word “October”.
(2) Use the sentence patterns skillfully.
Teaching aids
(1) Word cards and pictures.
(2) The tape recorder and the tape.
(3) PPT and the video.
Teaching procedures
Step 1. Warm-up
Greet Ss as usual.
T: Good morning, boys and girls!
Ss: Good morning, Miss Wang.
T: How are you?
Ss: I’m fine, thank you. How are you?
T: Very well, thanks.
Let Ss sing the song “The twelve months”.
Step 2. Revision
Play a game: Crouch down.
(1)Let six students on behalf of six months.
(2)Send the instruction: July, July, sit down.
(3)The student on behalf of July does squats and says one sentence.
2. Play a game: Read quickly
Step 3. Presentation
Teach “B.Let’s try”
(1)Play the tape about this part.
T: What will Oliver have?
(2)Let Ss listen and tick.
Teach “B.Let’s talk”
(1)Talk about the favourite season.
T: I like spring best. Which season do you like best?
S1: I like summer best.
T: Do you know which season Oliver and Chen Jie like best? Well, let’s learn “B.Let’s talk”.
(2)Show Ss the picture
T: What can you see in the picture?
Ss: I see Oliver and Chen Jie.
3. Play the tape about “B.Let’s talk”.
(1) Ask Ss to answer two questions.
Q1: When is the school trip?
Q2: Where will they go?
(2) Guide Ss to answer the above questions.
4. Role-play.
(1)Let Ss work in pairs.
(2)Let one student be Oliver, and the other student be Chen Jie.
Step 4. Practice
1. An activity: When is your birthday?
(1) Let Ss work in a group of twelve.
(2) Ask Ss the question “When is …’s birthday?”
(3) Guide Ss to answer.
e.g. T: When is …’s birthday?
S1: It’s in January.
S2: You are wrong. It’s not in January. It’s in February.
S3: You are wrong. It’s not in February. It’s in March.

2. An activity: Lucky match.
(1) Prepare two pieces of paper, one about months, and the other about weather.
(2) Let one student take out a piece of paper from each box.
(3) Say out the sentence.
Step 5. Consolidation and sum-up
Get pupils to do some consolidation exercises. Teacher goes around and gives some help to them.
Give students a chance to sum up what have learned in the lesson. (Students can have a free talk.) Then the teacher gives a brief summary.
Step 6. Homework
Read the dialog after the tape.
Preview Part C.
Finish the relevant exercises.
